U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he intends to be involved in the process of determining Iran’s new Supreme Leader. He made these remarks during an interview with Axios.

According to Trump, Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, is not a suitable candidate for the position.

"They are wasting their time. Khamenei’s son is not a heavyweight politician," Trump said.

The U.S. President emphasized that he should have a say in the selection of the new leader to ensure regional interests are met.

"I need to be involved in the appointment process, similar to the situation with Delcy in Venezuela. Khamenei’s son is unacceptable to me. We want to see someone who will bring peace and stability to Iran," he added.

Trump referenced the case of Delcy Rodríguez as an example. Rodríguez served as an interim figure in Venezuela following the detention of former President Nicolás Maduro.

This move signals a potential shift in U.S. foreign policy toward more direct intervention in the leadership transitions of adversarial nations.
