WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is removing around 30 career diplomats from ambassadorial and other senior embassy positions. The move is aimed at reshaping U.S. foreign policy by placing officials who fully support President Donald Trump’s “America First” priorities, AP News reports.

Most of the affected ambassadors were appointed during the Biden administration, but some had remained in their posts during the initial personnel changes under Trump. They are now being asked to return to Washington for other assignments.

The U.S. State Department described the changes as a standard administrative process, stressing that ambassadors serve as the personal representatives of the president.

The diplomatic changes affect several countries:

  • Europe: Armenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovakia
  • Middle East: Algeria, Egypt
  • South and Central Asia: Nepal, Sri Lanka
  • Western Hemisphere: Guatemala, Suriname

The news was first reported by Politico. The decision has raised concerns among some lawmakers and members of the U.S. diplomatic community.
