U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to instruct government agencies, including the Department of Defense, to identify and begin the process of declassifying secret documents related to aliens and extraterrestrial life. This was reported by the BBC.
Trump announced this move on his Truth Social platform. Previously, he criticized former President Barack Obama for comments made during a podcast. Last week, in an interview with podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen, Obama suggested that "aliens exist."
Responding to journalists' questions aboard Air Force One, Trump characterized Obama's statement as a mistake.
"He shouldn't have said that. He made a big mistake," Trump said.
When journalists asked, "Do you personally believe in the existence of aliens?" Trump replied:
"To be honest, I don't know if they exist or not."
In his interview, Obama had stated:
"They are out there, but I haven't seen them, and they aren't hiding in Area 51. Unless there is some massive conspiracy, it would be impossible to hide that from a U.S. President."
However, after his words sparked widespread debate, Obama clarified on Instagram that he was speaking about the statistical probability of extraterrestrial life given the scale of the universe, but noted he saw no evidence of contact with aliens during his presidency.
Trump, in turn, acknowledged that many people believe in aliens but stated he would not comment further on the matter. Nevertheless, a few hours later, he wrote on Truth Social that due to "great public interest," he intends to begin the process of releasing all information regarding extraterrestrial life, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), and Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs).
It is worth noting that in its 2024 report, the Pentagon stated there is no evidence of the U.S. government encountering extraterrestrial life. Furthermore, the majority of unidentified flying objects were found to be ordinary objects.
