Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his evening video address on May 17, stated that strikes on Russian territory, including Moscow, are changing the course of the war. According to him, the armed conflict is shifting back to Russia's own territory, which serves as a clear sign of the consequences of an aggressive policy against another nation.
Earlier, on the night of May 17, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack on the city and region of Moscow. The attack damaged several strategic facilities, including the "Elma" technopark, the "Angstrem" enterprise, an oil refinery, an airport, and a petroleum product fueling station. The aforementioned technopark primarily houses manufacturing facilities that produce electronic and optical equipment, as well as control and measurement instruments.
The Russian Ministry of Defense commented on the incident, reporting that air defense systems shot down 555 drones overnight across 14 regions, as well as in the airspace over Crimea and the Black and Azov Seas. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that more than 120 unmanned aerial vehicles approaching the capital were destroyed.
According to official data, three residents of the region were killed as a result of the drone attacks, and another 17 people sustained various physical injuries in the Moscow region.
