Thailand's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, announced that the authorities intend to shorten the visa-free entry duration. According to official data, this step is being taken to limit the number of foreigners who misuse visa privileges for purposes other than tourism. The Minister emphasized that the reduction is not directed against any specific nationality but aims to strengthen order and prevent illegal activities within the country.

This initiative had been raised previously but was postponed due to the election campaign. Now, the Thai government plans to streamline visa categories and reduce their total number. Consequently, for those planning a trip to the "Land of Smiles" in the near future, the visa-free period will likely not exceed one month.

Currently, government officials are discussing this matter with relevant departments. Experts note that despite the change in rules, Thailand will remain open and hospitable to tourists, though monitoring and compliance requirements will be tightened.
