Due to an increase in road traffic accidents caused by adverse winter weather conditions, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan has decided to strengthen traffic safety measures on highways of international and national significance.

In accordance with this decision, starting from 00:00 on February 9, 2026, the maximum permitted speed for vehicles on the Astana - Pavlodar highway will be reduced from 140 km/h to 110 km/h. This restriction is specifically for the winter period and is temporary.

According to the department, this measure aims to improve road safety, reduce the accident rate, and mitigate risks arising from unfavorable meteorological conditions such as icy roads, snowdrifts, and low visibility.

The previous speed limit is planned to be reinstated during the spring-summer period, depending on the technical and climatic conditions of the road.

In turn, the national company KazAutoZhol has urged drivers to strictly observe the established speed limits, follow road sign requirements, and exercise maximum caution on the roads during the winter season.
