Serik Sapiyev Appointed to New Position Following Resignation

Olympic champion Serik Sapiyev has been appointed as a non-staff advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Sports. In his new role, he will lead the sports block of the headquarters responsible for preparing for the upcoming XX Summer Asian Games.

The Ministry explained this appointment as part of a planned personnel rotation. Such rotations are provided for under the updated Law "On Physical Culture and Sports," which came into force last year. Sapiyev’s extensive experience will be utilized to coordinate the national team’s preparations for the international competition.

Notably, this news emerged immediately after Serik Sapiyev stepped down from his position as Head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Karaganda Region. Only yesterday, it was reported that Sapiyev and his deputy, Dauren Yesimkhanov, had submitted voluntary resignations. These leadership changes followed a controversial incident that went viral on social media and caused a significant public outcry.
