The Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan approved in the first reading the draft law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Archival Affairs and Restriction of the Spread of Unlawful Content.”

The document provides for amendments and additions to the Labor Code and 12 existing laws, including provisions concerning the protection of children from information that may harm their health and development. Among the proposed measures is the restriction of the dissemination of information related to the promotion of pedophilia and non-traditional sexual orientation in public spaces, including through mass media, telecommunications networks, and online platforms.

Speaking at the session, Senator Amangeldy Yesebay noted that the proposed provisions aim to protect the younger generation from antisocial phenomena, strengthen the institution of the family, preserve national values, and ensure moral and spiritual education.

In conclusion, the deputies reported that the permanent committees of the Senate had no comments or proposals regarding the draft law. Following the vote, the document was approved in the first reading. The second reading of the draft law is scheduled for December 18.
