Kazakhstan's top-ranked tennis star Elena Rybakina secured her maiden quarterfinal spot at the US Open after defeating two-time tournament champion Naomi Osaka 6-1, 6-4 in the fourth round, according to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).

With this triumph, Rybakina becomes one of the elite players to have reached at least the quarterfinal stage across all four Grand Slam tournaments. To book a place in the US Open semifinals, she will face China's Zheng Qinwen.

During her dominant performance against Osaka, the Kazakhstani player fired seven aces and struck 29 winners, while making 17 unforced errors. Speaking after the match, Rybakina expressed satisfaction with her performance on the court.

The upcoming quarterfinal clash holds major implications for the world rankings. A victory over Zheng Qinwen would position Rybakina to potentially claim the WTA World No. 1 ranking at the conclusion of the US Open.

While Rybakina acknowledged her ambition to become the world's top-ranked player, she emphasized that her immediate focus remains on preparing for the next match and chasing the US Open title.

Representing Kazakhstan since 2018, Elena Rybakina is a two-time Grand Slam champion, having won Wimbledon in 2022 and the Australian Open in 2026. She also captured the WTA Finals title in 2025 and currently holds the World No. 2 spot.
