The energy deficit issue in southern Kazakhstan is set to be fundamentally resolved. Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov has personally taken oversight of the construction of a modern Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant currently being built in the Sairam district of the Turkistan region.

The new power station will be equipped with four gas turbines from Siemens Energy, four waste heat recovery boilers, and two steam turbines. This technology allows for the generation of additional power by reusing the heat from exhaust gases. Not only is this highly efficient, but it is also environmentally friendly and offers the flexibility to rapidly compensate for power shortages in the grid.

Currently, the Turkistan region consumes 445 MW of energy but generates only 136.5 MW internally, leaving the region heavily dependent on external power sources. The new 1,000 MW plant will not only fully cover this deficit but will also ensure the stability of the entire energy system during peak load periods.

More than a thousand specialists and 150 units of machinery are already working on the construction site. The foundations for key structures have been laid, and the main turbines have been installed. The facility is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2026.
