Phone Scammers Test New Scheme via Intercoms

A new phone scam has appeared in Kazakhstan, this time involving intercom systems. The police department of Abai Region warned that scammers are posing as employees of service companies and offering residents a service to access their building without a key. They claim that the door can supposedly be opened using a personal six-digit code assigned to each apartment.

Law enforcement authorities note that such a service does not exist. After residents agree, the scammers do not provide any codes and only collect personal data under the guise of registering for the service.

The police emphasize that legitimate intercom service companies do not provide code-based access without an official contract and never request personal information over the phone.

Previously, it was reported that phone numbers from which scam calls are made will be automatically blocked in Kazakhstan. Mobile operators are required to use anti-fraud systems and check suspicious calls within two business days after receiving a complaint.
