Paris Police Hunt Armed Thief Who Stole €160 000 in Gems and Gold

In the heart of Paris, a criminal attacked jewelry couriers and stole a precious sapphire stone worth 150,000 euros, reports lire Le Journal.

The incident occurred on Monday morning around 10:00 AM on Abbeville Street in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. Two couriers had parked their vehicle to deliver goods to a jewelry store. At that moment, an armed individual, who had been hiding behind a truck, launched a sudden attack on them.

The thief snatched five bags containing gold and jewelry. According to the Paris Prosecutor's Office, the total value of the stolen items is estimated at 160,000 euros. Most significantly, the haul included a very rare sapphire worth 150,000 euros (more than 80 million tenge) on its own.

The courier who was struck during the assault was taken to the hospital.

Police reported that a specialized anti-banditry unit is currently handling the case. Experts believe the thief had precise prior knowledge of the couriers' route and the contents of the bags. Currently, neither the criminal nor the precious sapphire has been found.
