The Papa John’s pizza chain will be closing in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. This was announced by the owner of the master franchise, Daniyar Monolbai, on his Facebook page. The closure of the company was due to prolonged revenue decline, increasing expenses, and accumulated financial obligations.

“All available funds were directed to the most important payments: salaries, taxes, rent, and partial debt repayment. In Kazakhstan, we were also able to help the majority of employees continue working in other companies. This was an important part of winding down operations, and I am grateful to each employee for their work,” Monolbai wrote.

The American chain Papa John’s International entered the Kazakhstan market in 2017. The country had 15 restaurants operating in Astana, Almaty, Aktobe, Atyrau, Kostanay, Taraz, and Aktau.
