The United States and its allies have launched large-scale strikes against Islamic State (ISIS) bases in Syria, according to a statement from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

U.S. President Donald Trump issued the order for the strikes on January 10. The mission, dubbed "Operation Hawkeye Strike," was organized as a direct retaliation for a deadly ambush on December 13 that killed two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter in Syria.
CENTCOM described the action as a counter-terrorism effort aimed at protecting allied forces in the region.

"Our message is strong: if you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world, no matter how hard you try to evade justice," the Central Command stated.

According to media reports, the operation involved over 20 aircraft that struck more than 35 targets using over 90 precision-guided munitions. Information regarding specific locations hit and the exact number of casualties has not yet been released.
