Outdated building, outstanding results: Berik Uali visits BIL in Semey

Akim of the Abai Region Berik Uali visited the regional Bilim-Innovation Lyceum for gifted children in Semey as part of his working trip.

During the visit, the regional head reviewed the educational process, infrastructure, and key challenges facing the institution. The building currently used by the lyceum was constructed in 1984 as a kindergarten, while the school itself has been operating since 1994. Today, the lyceum educates 222 students and employs 31 teachers.

Despite infrastructure constraints, the lyceum continues to deliver strong academic outcomes. It has been ranked among the Top 100 Olympiad Schools of Kazakhstan based on national academic competitions. In addition, the school won the regional “Best Organization – 2025” award, securing a grant of 30 million tenge. Since 2011, the lyceum has consistently held the status of the region’s leading Olympiad team.

The school operates as a boarding institution, providing a comprehensive learning environment. However, outdated facilities and limited classroom space remain pressing issues. Lyceum director Serik Aidarbekov raised the need for a new building.

Berik Uali toured classrooms and the sports hall and spoke with students and teachers. He praised the lyceum’s achievements and confirmed that the design and cost documentation for a new building has already been prepared and will be submitted to the Government to seek funding.
