The South Korean authorities have announced a grace period, valid until the end of February 2026, allowing undocumented migrants to leave the country without facing legal repercussions. This was reported by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to the Ministry, those who depart voluntarily during this period will be exempt from fines and will retain the right to re-enter South Korea in the future. However, this incentive does not apply to individuals with criminal records or those who violated laws after December 1, 2025. To participate in the program, individuals must submit a preliminary application to the immigration service along with their flight ticket.

Ministry data from last year indicates that out of 15,000 Kazakhstani citizens residing in South Korea, 11,000 are undocumented migrants. South Korea has become a primary destination for the workforce moving from Central Asia. The main factors driving Kazakhstani citizens abroad are the low wage levels domestically and the potential for higher financial gains in Korea.
