New Spider-Man Installment Breaks Records, Approaching $1 Billion Worldwide

The latest release from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, delivered a record-shattering opening weekend. Garnering $355 million in its North American debut, the film achieved the second-highest opening weekend in cinematic history, trailing only 2019's Avengers: Endgame ($357 million).

According to analytics firm Rentrak, the movie - which arrived five years after its predecessor - has already crossed $927 million globally. For context, the previous entry in the franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home, earned $260 million during its domestic debut.

Chris Colombo, founder of the research firm Brighter Path, attributed this massive success to the enduring popularity of the iconic character, strong audience demand, and overwhelmingly positive critical reception.

Beyond Spider-Man, a strong lineup of blockbusters propelled the domestic weekend box office to a historic milestone, with total North American ticket sales reaching $430 million over the weekend.

Universal's The Odyssey, an epic based on ancient Greek mythology, performed exceptionally well in IMAX formats, bringing in $51 million over the weekend for a domestic debut total of $124.5 million, pushing its worldwide total to $721 million. Other notable performers in the top charts included Toy Story 5 ($6.3 million), Minions & Monsters ($5.8 million), the live-action Moana ($5.3 million), and the theatrical release of Hadestown: The Musical ($2.1 million).

Industry analysts predict that this summer season could generate over $4 billion for the film industry. Year-to-date global box office revenue has reached $6.19 billion, marking a 15% increase compared to 2025 performance.
