Law enforcement agencies have warned about a new type of scam where citizens themselves end up contacting scammers, becoming victims of cyber threats. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported this.

Police and the Prosecutor General’s Office advise people to take precautions and contact organizations only through official phone numbers.

According to foreign sources, scammers are sending emails and SMS messages pretending to be delivery services, property management companies, or banks, starting a new wave of attacks. These messages claim that there is a problem and push recipients to act immediately.

Using excuses like “authorization error,” “intercom replacement,” or “meter inspection,” scammers force people to call the numbers provided. As a result, citizens often do not realize they are being tricked, giving scammers the chance to use social engineering techniques and steal confidential information.

Authorities note that in such cases, scammers may try to access bank card details, one-time SMS codes, and other personal information, which can lead to financial losses and account hacks.

Police urge citizens to stay vigilant, treat unknown messages and calls with caution, verify information through official websites, and use extra protection measures, including two-factor authentication. Following cybersecurity rules remains the most effective way to prevent falling victim to these new scams.
