A survey conducted by a laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has highlighted growing concerns over the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. Based on insights from 272 leading AI experts, the research outlines 24 critical threats that could materialize by 2030. According to the findings published by BBC News Russian, the lack of effective regulatory frameworks and constraints leaves a 10% chance of a global catastrophic event. Should humanity lose complete control over these systems, the risk of a disastrous scenario climbs above 20%. Experts warn that such civilizational threats could lead to more than one million deaths, over $100 billion in economic fallout, or the collapse of democratic institutions.

At the top of the risk hierarchy are autonomous AI systems that breach human control and learn to cause harm independently. Such models could potentially execute large-scale cyberattacks, design sophisticated weaponry, manipulate political processes, or replicate across networks without authorization. The second and third positions are occupied by the threat of AI-assisted weapons of mass destruction and the deepening of socio-economic inequality, as power and wealth become concentrated in the hands of a few tech elites. Interestingly, mass unemployment - despite being the most widely discussed topic in public debate - ranked fourth on the experts' list of imminent dangers.

Public anxiety regarding AI technologies continues to accelerate worldwide. Data from the Stanford AI Index indicates that 52% of the global population now expresses fear over the potential consequences of AI integration. However, rising public concern has yet to yield comprehensive legislative action. A primary obstacle to effective oversight is that regulatory responsibilities remain largely in the hands of developers and venture investors who derive direct financial benefits from rapid technological deployment.

The impact of artificial intelligence will not be felt equally across all industries. According to the research, the sectors most vulnerable to AI-driven threats are Information Technology, National Security, and Finance, where risks related to misinformation campaigns, severe cyberattacks, and large-scale financial fraud are highest. Conversely, industries such as hospitality, agriculture, manufacturing, and culture are projected to be the least exposed to immediate AI disruption.
