The Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan has called on motorists to remain vigilant on national highways, citing a significant seasonal rise in traffic volume during the summer holiday period.

According to official figures, gross violations of traffic regulations account for 91% of all road accidents. The key contributing factors include:

  • Speeding: 33% of incidents

  • Loss of vehicle control: 14% of incidents

  • Ignoring road signs: 10% of incidents

Despite the heightened road traffic, the first six months of the year recorded a 9% decline in traffic accidents on highways of national significance, dropping to 1,371 cases compared to 1,507 over the same period last year.

This drop in accidents occurred even as overall traffic flow expanded by 37%, reaching 22.3 million vehicles.

Ministry officials attribute the safety improvements to the implementation of average speed control systems, ongoing upgrades to road quality, and the installation of informational signage alongside electronic message displays.
