In the Zhambyl region, a 24-year-old contract serviceman lost an eye during an oath-taking ceremony, reports "Channel 31".

The incident occurred during the ceremonial event for young soldiers. According to witnesses, Zhaksylyk Moldakul was injured when a bottle struck his head and broke during a demonstration.

The deceased’s mother, Gulzira Baykonysova, stated that her son had continued to serve under a contract after completing military service and was supporting his family.

After the injury, the soldier was taken to the Zhambyl Regional Ophthalmology Center, where emergency surgery was performed.

“His right eye has been operated on, but further medical interventions will be needed to prevent damage to the left eye,” said Zhansaya Sydykova, deputy chief physician of the center.

The leadership of the 91/678 military unit, where the serviceman is employed, confirmed that they would provide all necessary assistance to the injured soldier.

Zhaksylyk Moldakul’s mother has appealed to the Ministry of Defense to pay attention to the incident.
