Mild Earthquakes Felt in Almaty Following Tremor in Neighboring China

A minor earthquake originating in China was felt in Almaty on July 29 at 11:09 AM Astana time, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The tremors registered at an intensity of 2 points on the MSK-64 scale within the city.

Seismologists located the epicenter 257 kilometers southeast of Almaty, at coordinates 41.357° North latitude and 78.778° East longitude.

Emergency officials confirmed that there were no reports of casualties or structural damage resulting from the seismic activity.

Safety experts remind the public to remain calm during earthquake events. Recommendations include avoiding elevators, staying away from windows and heavy furniture, and moving to open outdoor areas clear of power lines, trees, and buildings once the shaking stops.
