A mass loss of livestock has occurred in the Karakiya district of the Mangystau region due to severe weather conditions. According to local executive authorities, more than 550 head of livestock perished within a two-day period.

According to official data from the Karakiya district akimat, a total of 553 head of livestock were lost between April 20 and 21, 2026. The breakdown includes:

• 242 horses (including yearlings and foals);

• 261 sheep and goats;

• 7 camels and calves.

The primary cause of the livestock deaths was heavy rainfall, which led to the erosion of pasture lands and extreme soil waterlogging. According to local farmers, the animals became trapped in the deep mud and were unable to escape, falling victim to the natural disaster.

The regional akimat, in cooperation with industrial enterprises, has deployed specialized machinery to clear the waterlogged areas. Veterinary specialists are currently identifying the deceased livestock via microchips, conducting a formal census, and processing the necessary legal documentation.

Local authorities stated that the issue of compensation for the lost livestock will be reviewed in accordance with current legislation. Once all legal documentation is finalized, veterinary services will begin the disposal of the carcasses using specialized equipment.

The situation in the region remains under the constant supervision of local executive bodies.
