Kazakhstan will introduce mandatory screening for the consumption of narcotic and psychotropic substances for a specific range of government employees. These regulations are outlined in the new draft law "On Civil Service."

The Mazhilis  approved the bill and its accompanying documents in their second reading during a plenary session.

According to the document, new requirements for the medical examination of civil servants are being established. This measure is aimed at the prevention and early detection of the illegal use of drugs and psychotropic substances within the state apparatus.

The supplementary draft law specifies:

• The formal procedure and legal grounds for conducting such screenings;

• The specific list of positions subject to mandatory testing.

Notably, the list of specific government positions subject to testing will not be made public. It will be categorized as a "For Official Use Only" document, to be approved by the head of the respective state body or the chief of staff.

Once the law is officially enacted, all testing procedures will be carried out in strict accordance with the established legislative requirements.
