Kazakhstan's newly launched Interbank Mobile Payment System has processed over 2 million transactions totaling 56.6 billion tenge as of July 28. According to official statements from the National Bank, the system has operated seamlessly without any technical disruptions or user complaints since its inception. The reliability and operational performance of the payment infrastructure are continuously monitored by the National Payment Corporation.
To foster fair market competition and ease the financial burden on businesses, regulatory limits have been imposed on transaction fees. Under these rules, interbank QR payment fees for merchants cannot exceed standard bank card processing rates. For cross-bank transactions, a 1% fee share goes to the customer's issuing bank to fund reward and cashback programs, while the remaining portion is retained by the merchant's acquiring bank.
The regulator emphasized that adopting the unified QR system remains entirely voluntary for businesses, serving as an optional tool for convenience. Merchants retain the flexibility to continue using multiple payment terminals or streamline all transactions into a single device. Moving forward, the platform is set to expand its functionality, introducing features such as request-based payments and direct corporate B2B settlements.
