According to the national weather service "Kazhydromet," the final month of winter in Kazakhstan is expected to be relatively warm with precipitation levels remaining within normal ranges. Average air temperatures across most of the country will be 1–2 degrees Celsius higher than the climatic norm, while the southeastern regions will stay within their typical seasonal averages.

Precipitation and Regional Outlook

Higher-than-normal precipitation is anticipated in the northwestern half of the country, as well as in the mountainous and foothill areas of the south, southeast, and east.

  • Northern half: Primarily snow.
  • South and Southwest: A mix of rain and sleet.
    Temperature Fluctuations in the First Ten Days
    The first decade of February will bring significant temperature swings:
  • West and Northwest (including Aktobe region): Nighttime temperatures will initially drop to -23...-28°C, before easing to -10...-20°C.
  • North, Center, and East: The month will start with a warm spell as temperatures rise to -4...+1°C, followed by a sharp cold snap dropping to -18...-28°C at night.
  • Southern regions: Weather will remain highly unstable, with daytime highs fluctuating between +3...+10°C and +8...+17°C.

Severe Cold and Weather Hazards

Bitter cold is expected to persist through the middle of the month. Until February 20, northern, central, and eastern regions may face severe frost, with nighttime temperatures plunging to -30...-35°C.
In addition to the cold, Kazhydromet warns of hazardous meteorological conditions throughout the month across various regions, including:

  • Frequent fog and reduced visibility.
  • Icy road conditions (black ice).
  • Strong winds and blizzards.
