Kazakhstan is modernizing its border control system by expanding automated biometric entry points and digitizing identity verification. A key initiative includes testing a pilot project that enables travelers to cross the border using a digital QR-code passport via the eGov mobile application, eliminating the need to present a physical document. Additionally, 198 new Q-Gate biometric terminals will be deployed across border checkpoints by 2028 to supplement the 54 units currently active at 11 key locations, including Astana and Almaty international airports. Developed with advanced contactless tracking algorithms by Kazdream Special Systems, the Q-Gate technology cross-references biometric facial data with passport records in 15 to 50 seconds. This slashes processing times for a standard 200-passenger flight from 30 minutes to just 7 minutes, allowing citizens aged 16 and older to clear customs without manual intervention from border control officers while enhancing national security and migration monitoring.
