Kairat Defeats Omonia on Penalties to Advance to the Third Qualifying Round of the Champions League

FC Kairat Almaty secured a place in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League after overcoming Cyprus’s Omonia in a penalty shootout during their second-round aggregate tie.
The second-leg match held at the Central Stadium in Almaty ended 1–0 in favor of the hosts after regular and extra time, thanks to a 37th-minute strike by Edmilson. With the aggregate score tied at 1–1, the outcome was decided by a penalty shootout.
Edmilson, Oksanen, Martynovich, Gual, Tuyakbayev, and Birqurmanov all successfully converted their spot-kicks for Kairat. Goalkeeper Anarbekov proved decisive by saving two penalties, securing a 6–5 shootout victory for the Kazakh side.
Prior to this match, Kairat eliminated Montenegro's Sutjeska with a 4–1 aggregate score in the first qualifying round. In the upcoming third qualifying round, the Almaty-based club will face the winner of the clash between Bulgaria’s Levski and Romania’s Universitatea Craiova.
