Social media feeds across Astana, Almaty, and other major cities have been flooded with complaints of persistent fatigue, coughing, and sore throats, sparking intense speculation about a potential "mystery virus." Addressing the growing public concern, the Ministry of Health released an official briefing to clarify the current epidemiological reality.
According to health authorities, no previously unknown viruses have been detected in the country since the start of autumn. On the contrary, acute respiratory viral infection (ARVI) diagnoses have dropped to 51,937 cases since early September - a 1.8-fold decrease compared to the same timeframe last year. Notably, zero flu cases have been confirmed so far.
The COVID-19 situation also remains firmly under control. While the coronavirus continues to circulate among other seasonal respiratory pathogens, overall transmission rates have plummeted. Only 87 cases have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the year, representing a 10.3-fold drop compared to last year's figures.
The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the epidemiological landscape on a weekly basis. Health officials strongly advise citizens experiencing fever, cough, or sore throat to isolate at home and seek timely medical care. To prevent infection, the public is encouraged to practice good hygiene, frequently ventilate living spaces, and minimize time in crowded public areas.
