A new era of "silent browsing" has arrived on social media. Meta has officially confirmed to TechCrunch that it is testing a high-end subscription tier called "Instagram Plus." This move marks a significant shift for the platform, offering everyday users access to exclusive, "spy-like" features for a small monthly fee.

The most talked-about feature of the new subscription is the ability to view Stories completely undetected. For the first time, users can watch a post without appearing in the creator's viewer list. Conversely, subscribers will gain a "Rewatch" metric, allowing them to see exactly how many times their own Stories have been re-viewed - perfect for identifying who has a "special interest" in their content.

A Suite of Exclusive Tools:

• Infinite Audience Lists: Beyond "Close Friends," users can now create unlimited custom groups for targeted sharing.

• Extended Life Cycles: Subscribers can keep a Story active for an additional 24 hours, doubling its standard lifespan.

• Weekly Spotlight: Once a week, users can push their Story to the front of the tray to maximize views.

• Enhanced Interaction: The update introduces animated "Superlikes" and a search bar within the viewer list to quickly find specific individuals.

Currently, Instagram Plus is being piloted in Mexico, Japan, and the Philippines, with prices ranging from $1.00 to $2.20 USD depending on the region. Unlike "Meta Verified," which focuses on blue badges and security, this service is designed specifically to enhance the daily user experience. While some critics argue that "everything is becoming a paid service," others believe it will mirror the massive success of Snapchat+, which already boasts millions of subscribers.
