According to the latest data, Indonesia has reported 604 deaths, Thailand 176, and Sri Lanka 355, Qrnews.kz reports citing Rg.ru.

On the island of Sumatra alone, more than 578,000 people have been forced to leave their homes. Indonesian military forces have deployed three warships and two floating hospitals to assist the affected population.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that the floods in Sri Lanka are putting additional pressure on an already fragile healthcare system. The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that floods significantly increase the risk of food-, water-, and vector-borne diseases.

The cyclone that caused the destruction and fatalities in Sri Lanka also hit southern India on Monday, but by then had largely weakened.
