Hackers in South Korea Breach 120,000 Cameras and Upload Intimate Videos

Four people in South Korea have been arrested for hacking more than 120,000 video cameras in homes and workplaces. The suspects allegedly uploaded the obtained footage to a foreign website for illegal sexual exploitation, BBC reports.
Police say the individuals exploited simple passwords and vulnerabilities in IP cameras to create and sell the material. Some suspects produced hundreds of videos, while others sold them for virtual assets worth millions of won.
The hacked cameras included those in private homes, karaoke rooms, a Pilates studio, and a gynaecology clinic. Police are conducting an investigation and are cooperating with foreign agencies to identify the operator of the website.
Victims are being assisted in removing the footage and changing their passwords. Authorities warn residents to regularly monitor their IP cameras and frequently update access passwords.
