The magazine’s annual Global Retirement Index considered factors important to retirees, including climate, cost of living, healthcare, and housing. This is the first time Greece has become the most popular choice among retirees. Previously, Spain and Portugal were often the top picks. Panama, Costa Rica, and Thailand also made the top ten list for 2026.

Jennifer Stevens, executive editor of International Living, said Greece has all the qualities retirees are looking for.

She described the country as “beautiful, welcoming, and affordable,” adding that it offers “a lifestyle that feels rich in every sense.”
