The Talas District Court of the Jambyl Region has ruled in favor of the Astana City Education Department in a lawsuit against a university graduate who studied under a local budget grant.

According to the contract signed in 2018, the student, who received a state-funded grant, was obligated to complete at least three years of mandatory work at a location assigned by local executive bodies upon graduation. Alternatively, the individual was required to reimburse the state for the cost of their education.

The defendant graduated in 2025 with a degree in "Geography" but failed to report to their assigned workplace. While the total budget spent on the student's education amounted to 4.6 million tenge, the plaintiff requested only the recovery of the tuition fees-excluding scholarships - totaling 1.7 million tenge.

The court found the claim valid and ordered the graduate to pay the 1.7 million tenge debt, along with the required state legal fees.

The court's decision has not yet entered into legal force.
