"Go Die in Your Own Country": Thai Prime Minister Sparks Controversy with Harsh Warning to Foreigners

Thai authorities have issued an urgent and stern warning to long-term foreign residents. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul demanded that expatriates stop treating Thailand merely as a place "to live and die." The head of government's fiery remarks were triggered by a recent request from foreign nationals seeking permission to build a private cemetery.

Addressing provincial governors during a key meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that foreigners must enter Thailand strictly for lawful employment and mutually beneficial cooperation. He warned against establishing unauthorized religious institutions or using Thai citizens as nominees to run illegal businesses.

"I recently learned about a request from foreigners to build a private cemetery. That is going too far; it crosses all boundaries. You should be grateful we allowed you to come here and earn an honest living. If your time has come to die, go die in your homeland. There is no need to die here," Charnvirakul stated bluntly.

The Prime Minister instructed governors to actively deploy expedited deportation procedures against anyone who violates local laws or disrespects Thai culture. He clarified that this warning applies broadly to foreign nationals from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa.

The statement follows a broader tightening of Thailand's immigration landscape. Effective September 15, 2026, the visa-free stay allowance for Kazakhstani tourists was halved, dropping from 60 days down to 30 days.
