Prices at fuel stations across Kazakhstan have begun to put a significant strain on the public's finances. According to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the cost of gasoline in March 2026 surged by 15.9% compared to the same period last year. Notably, this increase significantly outpaces the country’s overall inflation rate, which currently stands at 11%.

The statistical data confirms a price hike across all popular categories of fuel:

• AI-95 and AI-96: These marks were the hardest hit, with prices jumping by 16.9% over the year.

• AI-92: The most widely consumed "high-demand" gasoline rose by 16.0%.

• AI-98: Premium-grade gasoline saw a 14.1% increase.

• Diesel Fuel: Essential for the agricultural and transport sectors, diesel prices grew by 13.2%.

The primary driver behind this rapid growth was the expiration of the government-imposed price moratorium. Since the beginning of April, price caps have been lifted, allowing the market to transition toward its natural economic laws.

Despite the rising costs, the Ministry of Energy is urging the public to remain calm. Vice Minister Sungat Yesimkhanov stated that there are currently no grounds for a sudden or mass price spike in the near future. He emphasized that Kazakhstan remains among the countries with the cheapest gasoline in global rankings.
