French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that the country is entering a new phase of strengthening its nuclear capabilities, a strategy he termed "advanced deterrence," according to France info.

Speaking at the nuclear submarine base on Long Island (Île Longue), Macron highlighted several critical factors behind this decision:

  • Conflict in the Middle East: The war against Iran initiated by the United States and Israel is creating instability and new threats near European borders.
  • Shift in U.S. Policy: Washington’s reassessment of its strategic priorities is forcing France and Europe to bolster their own defense capabilities.
  • European Security: The President emphasized the need to rethink deterrence strategies deep within the European continent while maintaining full national sovereignty.

Emmanuel Macron clarified that this strategy will lead to an increase in the number of nuclear warheads. However, in a departure from past practice, specific data regarding the size of the arsenal will no longer be disclosed.

"Unlike what was done in the past, we will no longer disclose data on our nuclear arsenal to put an end to any speculation and to protect the interests of France," Macron stated.

The French President also stressed that this move does not signify an entry into an "arms race" and is intended solely for national security purposes.

According to the latest open data from the French Ministry of Armed Forces, the country possessed at least 300 nuclear warheads. This figure will now become classified information for the sake of national security.
