According to the Euronews news agency, 21 people have died as a result of two high-speed trains derailing in the town of Adamuz, located in the Córdoba province of southern Spain. Data on the number of injured varies across different Spanish media outlets, with estimates ranging from 25 to 100 people.

According to media reports, a train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed first. It veered onto the oncoming tracks and collided with another train approaching at that time. As a result of the collision, the second train also derailed. Video footage from the scene shows that at least one carriage or locomotive overturned following the impact.

The AFP agency quoted one of the passengers, who described the force of the collision as being similar to an "earthquake."

In total, approximately 400 people were on board the two trains. Train traffic in this section has been suspended. Spain's Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, wrote on the X social network: 

"The incoming information is very serious."
