The combined wealth of the world's billionaires increased by $2.5 trillion in 2025, reaching a historic record. This was stated in the annual report by Oxfam, an international confederation of charitable organizations. The document was released on January 19, coinciding with the World Economic Forum.

According to the Oxfam report, the collective wealth of billionaires has surged by 81% since March 2020, reaching $18.3 trillion. The organization highlights that the world's richest man, Elon Musk, earns an amount equal to the global average annual income in just four seconds.

Furthermore, the report notes that nearly half of the world's population lives in poverty. This group accounts for only 0.52% of global wealth. In contrast, the richest 1% of the world owns 43.8% of all human wealth.

Charlotte Becker, Chairwoman of Oxfam Germany, described the current situation as alarming.

"We are living in the era of billionaires. This is not good news for the world," she said.

Becker emphasized that the transformation of the economic influence of the ultra-wealthy into political power poses a threat to democracy. In her opinion, this trend is clearly visible through the policies of Donald Trump.

"Policies tailored to the interests of the wealthy will only further deepen social inequality," she added.

The Oxfam report demonstrates that global wealth inequality is worsening year by year, with social and political consequences becoming increasingly severe.
