Kazakhstani tennis star Elena Rybakina has officially claimed the top spot in the world rankings. Following the updated WTA standings released after the 2026 US Open, Rybakina ascended to World No. 1 with 9,901 points.

Former leader Aryna Sabalenka dropped to second place with 7,875 points. Rybakina had already secured the top position by reaching the US Open semifinals before going on to win the entire tournament. In a thrilling three-set final, she defeated Sabalenka with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

This victory marks Rybakina’s first US Open title and her third Grand Slam trophy overall, adding to her previous triumphs at Wimbledon in 2022 and the Australian Open earlier in 2026.

With this historic milestone, Rybakina becomes the first player from Kazakhstan - male or female - to ever reach the top of the world singles rankings.
