Divorced Couple Disputes Wedding Gifts in Court

In Shymkent, a divorced couple turned to the courts to determine the ownership of gifts received during their wedding. According to the woman, her former husband had retained her personal property, including items valued at 2.4 million tenge.

The court of first instance upheld the woman’s claim, ordering the man to return the specified amount, as well as cover court fees and state duties.

However, during the appeal process, the parties agreed to resolve the dispute through mediation. As a result of the negotiations, the woman withdrew her claim, and the man agreed to pay his former spouse 200,000 tenge in compensation.

This sum was determined as reimbursement for the value of certain items he had kept. The man is obligated to pay the compensation within two weeks.
