Crackdown at Almaty Airport: Foreigners Arrested Over Minors’ Trafficking

Social media reports claim that several foreign nationals were detained at Almaty Airport while attempting to leave Kazakhstan with newborns born via surrogate mothers. It is assumed that the individuals involved were a married foreign couple.

The Almaty City Police Department provided an official comment regarding the incident:

“Regarding this case, the Almaty City Police Department’s Investigation Department has initiated a criminal case under Article 135, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan – trafficking of minors. Within the framework of the criminal case, a thorough, objective, and comprehensive investigation is being conducted in accordance with Article 24 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” the police press release stated.

Currently, all participants involved in the case are being identified.
