Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych has announced his intention to compete wearing a helmet featuring images of athletes killed in the war, despite an official ban from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The story was reported by the BBC.

The core of the dispute lies in Rule 50.2 of the Olympic Charter, which prohibits any form of "political, religious, or racial propaganda" at Olympic venues. While IOC officials suggested wearing a black armband as a neutral alternative to pay tribute, Heraskevych rejected the proposal. He argued that the rules should be applied consistently, pointing to cases like American figure skater Maxim Naumov, who was permitted to honor deceased loved ones during the games.

At this stage, it remains unclear whether Heraskevych will face disqualification or a financial penalty for his decision. Notably, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already expressed his gratitude to the athlete for his courage and for defending the interests of his country. This confrontation on the Olympic stage has captured the intense attention of the international sporting community.
