Commanders Dismissed Following Assault on Soldier in Zhambyl Region

Several high-ranking officers have been severely disciplined following the assault of a conscripted soldier in one of the military units of the Gvardeiskiy garrison, reports Kaztag.kz.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Press Service of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a criminal case has been initiated regarding the infliction of bodily injuries on a serviceman. An investigation is currently underway. Simultaneously, an internal service check was conducted to provide a legal assessment of the officials' actions.

Based on the results of the investigation, four senior officials have been dismissed from their positions:

• The Military Unit Commander;
• The Deputy Commander for Educational and Ideological Work;
• The Battalion Commander;
• The Company Commander.

Furthermore, the Deputy Commander of the military unit (Chief of Staff), the Deputy Battalion Commander, and his assistant for educational work were issued warnings of "incomplete professional suitability." A number of other officers and sergeants were also subjected to strict disciplinary measures.

 "The measures taken demonstrate the principle of personal and inevitable responsibility, regardless of the position held. Final conclusions and a legal assessment of all circumstances will be provided upon the completion of the investigation in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the Ministry of Defense stated.
