Baby-selling “business” exposed in Almaty

In Almaty, the activities of a criminal group involved in selling newborns have been stopped. According to Polisia.kz, the organizers exploited the difficult situations of young women, coercing them to sell their newborns to third parties.

“All participants have been arrested. Currently, more than 20 criminal cases are under investigation. The suspects face up to 18 years in prison and confiscation of property,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

Police identified six cases of newborn sales. In addition, around 30 cases of human trafficking were recorded.

In the Abai district, forced labor cases were also uncovered. Eleven criminal cases were initiated, and the materials have been sent to court.

Furthermore, police conducted safety inspections in nightclubs and other establishments in Shymkent, Aktobe, Zhambyl, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, and Kostanay regions.

In Astana, joint raids with the Prosecutor’s Office were carried out. As a result, eight people were held accountable for organizing brothels exploiting people for sexual purposes.
