Astana Mayor Announces Launch Date for LRT

The Light Rail Transit (LRT) system in Astana is expected to become fully operational this coming March. This was announced by the Mayor of the capital, Zhenis Kassymbek, during a briefing at the Central Communications Service.

According to the Mayor, the LRT has been running in test mode since September 30. Currently, plans are in place to complete the delivery of all train cars and finish the interior branding and finishing work of the stations.

"We planned for the testing phase to last between three to six months. We aim to complete all remaining work over the next two months and launch the LRT into full operation," said Zhenis Kassymbek.

According to the city administration, the launch of the LRT system will reduce traffic congestion in the Yesil and Nura districts and make commuting significantly easier for city residents
