London's Arsenal Football Club has officially secured the champion title for the 2025/2026 English Premier League season. In a decisive stage that determined the potential champion, Manchester City dropped crucial points in their match against Bournemouth, paving the way for the Londoners to claim the trophy ahead of schedule.
The situation in the tournament table had intensified following Arsenal's own victory in their recent match. Consequently, Manchester City was under strict obligation to defeat Bournemouth in order to keep the title race alive until the final round. However, Tuesday's encounter ended in a 1:1 draw, causing the Manchester side to completely lose this opportunity.
During the match, Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi opened the scoring in the 39th minute to put his team ahead. Although Manchester City's clinical striker Erling Haaland equalized the score during stoppage time added by the referee, there was not enough time left to find a winning goal.
Following the results of 37 rounds of the season, Arsenal achieved 25 victories, drew 7 times, and suffered only 5 defeats. By the end of the season, Manchester City forward Erling Haaland became the league's top scorer with 24 goals. Meanwhile, forward Viktor Gyökeres stood out exceptionally for Arsenal, scoring 12 goals in the championship and 19 goals across all competitions.
In the current season, Arsenal aims to conquer yet another historical milestone. On May 30 of this year, the London side will face French club PSG in the UEFA Champions League final. As Arsenal has never won this prestigious European trophy in its history, the upcoming match offers a massive opportunity to seal the club's first-ever historic "double."
