An earthquake was felt in Almaty

On February 17 at 3:08 PM, residents of Almaty felt an earthquake. According to preliminary data from the Android Earthquake Alerts System, the magnitude of the tremor may have been 5.1.

The Almaty City Department of Emergency Situations reported that information about the intensity and epicenter of the earthquake is being reported by the Seismological Research Center.

Monitoring is currently being carried out across the city to assess possible damage to buildings, structural destruction, and the operation of life-support systems.

Some residents stated that they did not hear the emergency alert system.

Later, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported that the earthquake was officially recorded at 3:11 PM Astana time on February 17. The epicenter was located within the territory of Kazakhstan, 74 kilometers east of Almaty.

At present, no information has been received about damage.
