Local authorities are considering the implementation of a specialized program to purchase and decommission aging vehicles as part of a strategic effort to enhance the city’s environmental landscape. The initiative was formally proposed during a recent session of the Almaty Ecological Council.

Almaty Akim Darkhan Satybaldy has issued directives to establish a dedicated entity tasked with the buyout and recycling of vehicles that no longer meet modern environmental standards. This organization will be responsible for spearheading the systematic modernization of the city's private and commercial automotive fleet.

The project is slated for development through a partnership between municipal departments and the Almaty Social-Entrepreneurial Corporation (SEC). Currently, the possibility of forming a specialized subsidiary to manage these operations is under review.

To facilitate a smooth transition for residents, the local government plans to introduce a comprehensive suite of support measures. These incentives include:

• Subsidized Loans: Low-interest financing for the purchase of eco-friendly vehicles.

• Leasing Programs: Accessible leasing options for individual and corporate users.

• Trade-In Schemes: Streamlined mechanisms to exchange older models for newer, high-standard vehicles.

Government officials expect that these measures will significantly reduce the density of high-emission vehicles on city streets, thereby contributing to a measurable decrease in atmospheric pollution levels in Almaty.
