Almaty International Airport has been held administratively liable following a roof leak that led to flooding in the terminal, the Civil Aviation Committee reported.

According to the agency, following the incident on May 3, the leadership of the Ministry of Transport held an emergency meeting with the airport administration and law enforcement agencies.

As a result of the investigation, the airport management imposed a disciplinary sanction on Mehmet Güzel, the Senior Vice President responsible for technical issues. Additionally, the airport issued an apology to passengers for the inconvenience caused.

Airport representatives stated that efforts to rectify the identified deficiencies have been intensified. Full restoration and the elimination of the causes of the flooding are expected to be completed within six months.

Context of the Incident:

On May 3, heavy rainfall caused water to leak through the ceiling of the new terminal, flooding the security check and passport control areas. The consequences of the incident were cleared within approximately 30 minutes, and flight schedules were not affected.
